Murphy’s Staycation

I knew something was up. We just got our pack back together after Mom left for a while.  It was so tough getting Dad up for my very early neighborhood walk, I was glad Mom was back.  But wait…. Mom wasn’t putting away that rolling box she puts clothes in when either she or Dad leave.  Oh oh…. and now she has another rolling box out.  This cannot be good.  We are a pack and must stay together.   How else can I ensure they are safe?

While Mom was putting a bunch of her and Dad’s clothes in the upstairs bedroom (and in those rolling boxes), I spied a bag that smelled like there were yummy treats inside.   But Mom kept closing the door so I couldn’t investigate. But one day, Mom left the house, leaving the door open to that room.   But Dad was still home.   Dratz!   I wondered if I could sneak up there and he wouldn’t notice.   The smell was driving me crazy!  As I was surveying the situation, Dad left on his motorcycle.   Whoop!    Up the stairs I went (after devouring the treat Dad left me).   There it was.   A yummy bag full of treats on the bed.   All for me! I carefully grabbed the bag from the bed and carried it to the nice fuzzy white rug Mom had recently got for us to lay on.

The bag was full of chocolate bunnies of all sizes!   I am a chocolate lab and it is important I keep my chocolate color after all.   I carefully opened each package and let’s just say I didn’t waste any time eating every last bit of chocolate.   Some of the bunnies had a bright cover over them, which was too difficult to take off, so I just ate the bunnies along with the cover.   So good!

When Mom got home and saw the empty packages, she seemed upset.   I really appreciated that she left the door open for me.  For some reason, we then went to my doctor (and I got yummy treats).  It was decided I would be fine in a few days.   Something about dogs aren’t supposed to eat chocolate—but I’m a chocolate lab!  What a silly rule.   I did have quite an upset stomach all night, but mom stayed up with me and let me out anytime I had a tummy ache.   Thanks Mom!

The next day the rolling boxes were loaded in the truck.   I didn’t see my food get loaded – so that means I was not going.  Oh oh….

And then came a knock on the door and DeeDee was there.   Oh boy!   Playtime with DeeDee.  I had met DeeDee when we were on that trip in the boat.  She was so much fun.  See ya Mom & Dad.   DeeDee is here!   Let’s see what I can get away with!

I love going out the back gate of our neighborhood, and I dragged DeeDee to the back gate every time we got close.   I also led the way around the neighborhood. I know which way I want to go and I want to show her around. She got to meet some of my friends. I pulled her every which way and tried to see how many times I could wrap the leash around her legs. That was fun! Hehe.

I like to check on her when she is sleeping to see if I can sneak some pets and attention. One morning, I licked her right across the face! She said it registered on her sleep tracker precisely at 4:44 a.m. Fun stuff!

She said she was moving, so I got to take a couple trips with her to help her pack her house, clean and pick up Jon. I also got to visit their storage unit again and scored a yummy peanutty pup cup on the way home. I was a good boy!

One time she left for a short time, so I decided to open one of her boxes to see what was inside. I was so proud of myself when I found a ball and showed her the ball in my mouth when she returned. She said she uses it to massage her feet. Eww. That was the end of that.

After many days here, she started packing up boxes. Oh no. What is happening? I don’t like this. So I chewed up her packing tape so she can’t pack up and leave!  Who is going to play with me and more important, feed me?

A couple days after that, there was another knock at the door. It as Frank! Oh boy!  My body just couldn’t stop wiggling.  Frank led me to his car and I got to go to his house. Yay! Another adventure! Peace out, DeeDee!  Oh, and thanks for a great staycation.

Frank and I are buds.  One time we camped in our traveling home for many nights while Mom & Dad went cycling.  We had the best time.  Frank took me on road trips, out to eat, and lots of ball time.  This time we stayed at this house most of the time.  He would always take me for a walk when I let him know it was potty time.    He liked to sleep in so I had to remind him when it was time for my morning walk.  A couple of times he tried to hog the bed, so I just used my body to push him out of my spot.   He also had a nice cool floor that I liked to lay on.

I started to wonder when my Mom & Dad were coming home.  It’s been so much fun hanging out with DeeDee and Frank, but I really miss them.

One morning, we had just got back from our morning walk and I heard the front door open.  I spied down the stairs to see who it was and it was Mom & Dad!  I was so happy to see them!  I gave them lots and lots of kisses and made squeaky sounds so they knew I really missed them.

When we got back home from Frank’s house, Mom starting packing up stuff.  Oh no!  Not again!  But this time she said I get to come along as we are going camping.  I LOVE camping.   Oh boy…. a new adventure awaits.

DeeDee and Frank were so great to hang out with during my staycation.  I hope you enjoyed reading about my fun.   I will try to write again when we are on this year’s camping trip.

Tootles,
